The Unsaid
Each portrait is not an attempt to fix my mother’s image, but to capture the instability of being. Her face becomes a palimpsest of my memories of her from childhood and her coming to terms with mortality.

These paintings of women of color refuse the comfortable fictions of polite assembly, returning a fierce and unbearably lucid gaze. Drawing its name from Claudia Rankine's reckoning with proximity without accountability, each canvas is an act of implication that addresses the viewer directly.
